140 Minnesota Students to Compete at Minnesota High School Science Bowl

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

St. Paul, MN [January 18, 2023] – On Saturday, January 28, 140 students will gather at Minnetonka High School to compete in the 2023 high school Minnesota Science Bowl. This statewide competition is organized annually by the Minnesota Academy of Science (MAS). The winning team will advance to the prestigious National Science Bowl, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Science Bowl is an exciting event that gives students interested in math and science an important venue to expand their knowledge and strengthen their teamwork skills. During Science Bowl games, students work in teams to answer advanced science and math questions and solve technical problems. Winning teams advance to the next round of competition.

“Each year, coaches and students tell us how important Science Bowl is for encouraging engagement with science and math learning in a team environment,” notes Science Bowl tournament manager Kristine Fowler. “Everyone is really excited to be back in-person this year after two years of virtual competitions. Our community of committed volunteers, staff, and coaches are looking forward to a fun day of supporting passionate Minnesota students.”

Founded in 1873, the MAS is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for Minnesotans of all backgrounds to engage in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning, inquiry, research, and networking. MAS sponsors STEM education programs and events for students in elementary school through college.

MAS coordinates the annual Science Bowl with the help of over 70 volunteers and with generous support from organizations including the Minnesota Department of Education, Ecolab, and the Hardenbergh Foundation.
