90 Minnesota Students to Compete at Minnesota Middle School Science Bowl
St. Paul, MN [January 30, 2023] – On Saturday, February 11, 90 students will gather at Benilde-St. Margaret's School to compete in the 2023 middle school Minnesota Science Bowl. This statewide competition is organized annually by the Minnesota Academy of Science (MAS). The winning team will advance to the prestigious National Science Bowl, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy.
Science Bowl is an exciting event that gives students interested in math and science an important venue to expand their knowledge and strengthen their teamwork skills. During Science Bowl games, students work in teams to answer advanced science and math questions and solve technical problems. Winning teams advance to the next round of competition.
“Students, coaches, and volunteers are enthusiastic about returning to an in-person Science Bowl after two years of virtual events,” says Science Bowl tournament manager Kristine Fowler. “Our community is thrilled to be gathering together to facilitate science and math learning in this fun and supportive competition.”
Founded in 1873, the MAS is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for Minnesotans of all backgrounds to engage in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning, inquiry, research, and networking. MAS sponsors STEM education programs and events for students in elementary school through college.
MAS coordinates the annual Science Bowl with the help of over 70 volunteers and with generous support from organizations including the Minnesota Department of Education, Ecolab, and the Hardenbergh Foundation.
