31 Teams to Compete at Minnesota Regional High School Science Bowl
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
St. Paul, MN [January 13, 2021] – 150 high school students from across Minnesota will demonstrate their science and math skills on Saturday, January 23 during the Minnesota Academy of Science’s virtual high school Science Bowl.
As a regional competition of the U.S. Department of Energy, the winning team will advance to the National Science Bowl. Science Bowl enables students who are passionate about math and science to go beyond classroom learning and to strengthen their teamwork skills. “Science Bowl encourages pursuing knowledge and curiosity in general,” said 2020 High School Science Bowl participant Bryanna Shao.
In this year’s virtual Science Bowl, students compete in five-person teams to solve technical problems and answer questions in all branches of science and math. The tournament runs in a fast-paced, Q&A format with teams with the highest scores continuing to the next round of competition. Science Bowl tournament manager Kristine Fowler points out that the competition has taken on new relevancy this year, stating “the virtual Science Bowl format allows this exciting event to go forward even in a time of physical distancing. Coaches tell me that practicing for the competition has been a great way to keep their students positively engaged with science and with each other."
