Job Title: Executive Director

Reports To: Board of Directors

Purpose: MAS seeks a visionary and collaborative leader with a passion for STEM education
and connecting Minnesotans with STEM opportunities to direct and support the organization's mission, programs, and objectives. Under the general direction of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director shall be responsible for the operation and general management of all MAS activities, fundraising, managing the annual budget, events, and services.

Main Responsibilities:

● Adhere to, promote, and execute the mission and vision of the organization, adapting as
needed to meet changing external and internal dynamics in partnership with the Board
and Staff.

● Drive long term, sustainable growth for the organization. Manage and build relationships
with current sponsors and partners, serving as the spokesperson for MAS. Lead fundraising activities that maintain the current donor base and cultivate new donors/sponsors. Pursue new revenue sources through a variety of fundraising mechanisms, including corporate and foundation grants, consistent with the mission of the organization.

● Lead Board and Staff development of programmatic, organizational, strategic, and financial plans which assure that the organization continues to achieve its mission.

● Support a collegial, professional workplace culture where strategy, programming, systems, and communications are transparent, well developed, and maintained.

● Manage senior staff and other direct reports through active supervision and coaching, ensuring that Staff talents are identified and supported through professional development and annual goal setting that advances organizational priorities.

● Protect organizational financial and human resources by overseeing administrative, financial, and program operations as well as personnel matters. Prepare and administer the board-approved annual budget. Manage MAS financial resources under the advisement of an independent CPA and external investment advisors to ensure efficient and effective operations.

● Support and facilitate active Board engagement and good governance through Board recruitment and onboarding efforts, committee meetings, full board meetings, and other Board initiatives, ensuring that each Board member’s talents are recognized and leveraged to the fullest extent possible.

● Keep informed of trends, issues, events and developments within the Minnesota STEM and nonprofit communities through professional peer contacts, professional development, conference and event attendance, etc.

● Develop and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships with community stakeholders, sponsors, educational and corporate leaders, regional STEM leaders, and related national organizations.

● Ensure compliance with organizational by-laws and state, federal, and other external regulations as well as negotiated contracts.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, education, business, or nonprofit management and at least five years of senior nonprofit leadership, nonprofit program management, or STEM education experience required. Master’s degree preferred. Experience with nonprofit financial management and reporting, HR functions such as hiring, payroll, and benefits, strategic planning and implementation, fundraising and grant writing, and board governance strongly desired. Strong communication and technical skills desired. Must be able to pass a background check.
