Neuroscience of Addiction: Reefer Madness
On October 5th, we spent a exciting afternoon with Dr. Manuel Esguerra, neuroscientist and assistant research professor at the University of Minnesota. With a background in advanced neuroimaging and a focus on understanding the brain’s response to addictive substances, Dr. Esguerra shed light on the complex interplay between addiction and brain function.
Following his insightful talk, we screened the classic cult film Reefer Madness (1936, 65 min). This film, famous for its exaggerated portrayal of marijuana’s effects, offers a humorous and nostalgic look at drug propaganda. This Science Salon was a unique blend of cutting-edge science and vintage cinema that was both educational and entertaining.
Proceeds supported MAS programs bringing STEM learning to Minnesota students.
