110 Minnesota Students to Compete at Statewide Middle School Science Bowl

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

St. Paul, MN [February 4, 2025] – On Saturday, February 15, approximately 110 students representing ten middle schools will gather at Rosemount Middle School to compete in the 2025 Minnesota Science Bowl. This statewide competition is organized annually by the Minnesota Academy of Science (MAS). The winning team will advance to the prestigious National Science Bowl in Washington D.C., sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Science Bowl provides students who enjoy math and science a unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge and advance their teamwork skills. During Science Bowls, teams of four students compete head-to-head in fast-paced rounds to answer advanced science and math questions and solve technical problems. Top teams in the round-robin competition then compete in a double-elimination tournament to determine the state champion team.

“It’s always fun to watch the middle school games. The students get so excited to show what they know—which is a lot—while they’re also learning to work together as a team,” says Science Bowl tournament manager Kristine Fowler. “I’m looking forward to collaborating with our many dedicated volunteers and coaches to challenge these smart students in the high-energy Science Bowl!”

Founded in 1873, the MAS is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for Minnesotans of all backgrounds to engage in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning, inquiry, research, and networking. MAS sponsors STEM education programs and events for students in elementary school through college.

MAS coordinates the annual, statewide Science Bowl with the help of more than 50 volunteers and with generous support from sponsoring organizations including the Minnesota Alliance for Volunteer Advancement / Americorps Volunteer Generation Fund, Minnesota Department of Education, Ecolab, St. Paul & Minnesota Foundation, Verizon Foundation, Hardenbergh Foundation, and H.B. Fuller.

The middle schools planning to participate in the 2025 Science Bowl are: Central Middle School (Eden Prairie), Magnuson Christian School, Mahtomedi Middle School, Minnetonka East Middle School, Minnetonka West Middle School, Parnassus Preparatory School, Rosemount Middle School, Wayzata Central Middle School, Wayzata East Middle School, and Wayzata West Middle School.
