No one understands the importance of State Science Fair better than student participants. That's why we were thrilled to read State Science Fair participant's Rathan Duggirala's recent op-ed "Why the Science Fair Matters -- and How You Can Help" in the Rochester Post Bulletin!
Rathan, a sophomore at Mayo High School and a member of the Minnesota Junior Academy of Science, writes:
"While science fairs are known for their emphasis on STEM, they also teach critical skills. Through these experiences, students learn how to approach challenges systematically, communicate their ideas effectively, and adapt to setbacks. They develop confidence and gain insight into what it takes to bring ideas to life.
Organizing and supporting science fairs requires significant resources. Funding is needed for essentials like venues, awards, and travel expenses for students advancing to national and international competitions. Without this support, many students would miss out on opportunities to pursue their interests and showcase their work."
Rathan is currently fundraising for the State Science Fair with a goal of raising $1,500 for the 2025 event!
