[St. Paul, MN, August 19, 2023] -- The Minnesota Academy of Science (MAS) is pleased to announce the addition of Betsy Hughes to its Board of Directors. Hughes, a resident of Mound, has an extensive background in strategic planning and financial management. Hughes holds a Master of Business Administration from the Indiana Kelley School of Business and a Master of Science in Statistics from Purdue University. Prior to retirement, she worked as a Director of Global Market Intelligence for Abbott Laboratories.
As an experienced strategic planner and a committed supporter of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, Hughes will play an important role in guiding MAS’ mission of providing opportunities for Minnesotans of all backgrounds to engage in STEM-related learning, inquiry, research, and networking. “I am passionate about STEM education for the youth of Minnesota. I have seen the importance of MAS’ education programs through mentoring my children and their classmates in Science Fair for seven years as well as serving as a Science Fair judge and Science Bowl volunteer,” said Hughes.
“We are very excited that Betsy Hughes is joining our Board of Directors,” said Lara Maupin, MAS Executive Director. “Her experience in strategic planning and as a science project mentor are sure to prove beneficial to MAS as we work to address current challenges and advance STEM education opportunities for young people in Minnesota.”
Founded in 1873, MAS is a statewide 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to connecting Minnesotans of all backgrounds with resources and opportunities to engage in STEM learning, research, and communication - and to recognize excellence in these areas.
