150 Minnesota Students to Compete at Statewide High School Science Bowl

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

St. Paul, MN [January 5, 2024] – On Saturday, January 20, 150 students representing 15 high schools will gather at Hamline University to compete in the 2024 Minnesota Science Bowl. This statewide competition is organized annually by the Minnesota Academy of Science (MAS). The winning team will advance to the prestigious National Science Bowl in Washington D.C., sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Science Bowl provides students who enjoy math and science a unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge and advance their teamwork skills. During Science Bowls, teams of four students compete head-to-head in fast-paced rounds to answer advanced science and math questions and solve technical problems. Teams with the highest scores advance to the next round of competition.

β€œThe Science Bowl on January 20th is the culmination of months of preparation by Minnesota students and coaches,” says Science Bowl tournament manager Kristine Fowler. β€œThis exciting event is an opportunity for students, teachers, and our enthusiastic group of volunteer officials to celebrate science and math mastery in young people.”

Founded in 1873, the MAS is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for Minnesotans of all backgrounds to engage in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning, inquiry, research, and networking. MAS sponsors STEM education programs and events for students in elementary school through college.
